GCSE Results Day 2017 – No Need For Disappointment, Explore The Options

Here we are again as GCSE Results Day looms with 15/16 year olds all over the country probably feeling more than a little nervous right now.

Whilst what’s done is done, the grades your young person will get will impact on what they do next. Remember, though, they have options and it’s important they’re explored.

When is it?

This year GCSE results day is on Thursday 24th August.

What time can results be collected from?

Your young person will need to check with their school about what time they are planning on opening for them to collect their results. If they have taken any GCSEs with us at The Sheffield College, our City and Hillsborough campuses will be open from 8.30am until about 2pm.

What to look out for

In the envelope of results there’s likely to be a few certificates with different course results on depending on which exam board the courses were with. The most important results to look out for? Well they would be:

  • Maths and English
  • The subjects your child is wanting to continue to studying

Your young person gets the grades they needed

In that case, congratulations! If they’ve already applied for a course with us, we’ll see them at enrolment. Remind them to bring their certificates along with them!

Your young person didn’t get the grades they wanted or needed, what next?

Make sure your young person knows that this is the start, not the end. There are still lots of options available for them here at The Sheffield College such as an Apprenticeship or a hands-on, vocational course, not just A Levels.

The most important thing is that it’s not too late. We still have enough spaces on courses at the appropriate level for your young person to apply and enrol on before the start of term.

Already applied with us? No problems. If your child still comes along to their enrolment session, we’ll place them on level of course that’s right for them.

If your young person is feeling a bit stuck or unsure of what to do next, we’ll be on hand straight away. All of our campuses will be open on results day for advice and guidance but if a bit more time is needed to decide, please give us a ring on 0114 260 2600 to arrange an appointment with one of our expert advisers.

A Levels aren’t the only option

A Levels are not the only way for your young person to get to where they’re aiming for. Be that their chosen career, an Apprenticeship further down the line or university, the right option needs to be chosen.

Apprenticeships and vocational courses are highly respected by employers and will equip your young person with employability skills employers are looking for or carry the required UCAS points for a place at university.

It might be that they’re ready and more suited to something a bit more hands-on. Our vast array of vocational courses cover everything from Bakery to Engineering, Photography to Public Services. Our facilities rank amongst some of the best in the country, there’s certainly plenty on offer.

We also offer Apprenticeships in 15 different sectors, with a number of different roles within those, if earning whilst learning suits best. Apprenticeships range from Dental Nursing to Veterinary Nursing, Marketing Assistant to Teaching Assistant.

Missed out on English and/or Maths grades

Don’t panic if your young person misses out on their English and/or Maths grades. At The Sheffield College we will help them get that elusive grade alongside the course they want to study – without too much extra work.

The first resit is in November so they won’t have to wait too long, but it is really important they’re retaken. Find out why here…
