A Level Results Day 2017 – What Happens If I Don’t Get The Results I Want?

A Level Results Day stirs the same emotions year on year; nerves, angst and restlessness. You’ve studied the course, put the work in and taken the exam. The waiting is horrible but, whatever your grades, it’s not the be all and end all. This is the start. The start of your next step with the college.

When do I get my results?

Sheffield College May 17 Helena Dolby-144

Results come out on Thursday 17th August 2017. If you studied your A Levels with us, they will be collectable from our Hillsborough campus from 7a.m. If you didn’t study with us please check with your provider what time you will be able to collect from.

If you can’t wait until it’s time to collect your results, your UCAS track portal can update from any time after midnight and, whilst you won’t get your results online, you will find out if you’ve been accepted on to one of our courses.

But if things don’t quite go your way, these are your next steps…

You may still get in!

Regardless of your A Level results, make sure you still check your UCAS track portal as you still may have been accepted on the course with us if your results aren’t a million miles away.

If your course choices at The Sheffield College are showing as unsuccessful, don’t abandon all hope just yet. If you haven’t met the conditions of the offer, please give us a ring on 0114 260 2600 and ask to speak to the University Centre. We’ll have people on hand throughout results day, and the rest of the week, to advise you on your next move.

If your offer is still showing as conditional, or nothing has changed, please also contact us immediately.

We really do recommend getting in touch with us if you are disappointed. You never know, we may be able to sort something.

Clearing

Hillsborough_LR-97

If you don’t get accepted immediately, you will be placed into Clearing on the UCAS website, which opens immediately on results day. Clearing is the process is for people who:

  • Applied for university after the 30th June
  • Did not receive any university offers
  • Did not meet their entry requirements

The good news, though, is that in 2015, 64,000 people went to university after applying through Clearing.

All of our courses that have a vacancy will be relisted through Clearing. This is how it works:

  • You can chose any course at The Sheffield College that’s on the list.
  • When you know which course you want to do, you’ll need to call us on 0114 260 2600 citing your Clearing Number and Personal I.D. It may be busy getting through on the day but please be patient, it’ll be worth it as we can answer all your questions. If we are satisfied with your grades, we will verbally offer you a place.
  • Once we have settled on a verbal offer, you will need to click ‘add clearing choice’ on UCAS and fill in the details. You only get 1 option to choose so this counts as accepting your offer!

Here are some of the courses that are available in Clearing this year. Click on the name of the course to see more.

Health & Social Care HNC FdSc Sport and Exercise Coaching  FdA Photography
Environmental Conservation HNC FdSc Bakery and Patisserie Technology Animal Management HND

GCSE Results Day 2017 – No Need For Disappointment, Explore The Options

Here we are again as GCSE Results Day looms with 15/16 year olds all over the country probably feeling more than a little nervous right now.

Whilst what’s done is done, the grades your young person will get will impact on what they do next. Remember, though, they have options and it’s important they’re explored.

When is it?

This year GCSE results day is on Thursday 24th August.

What time can results be collected from?

Your young person will need to check with their school about what time they are planning on opening for them to collect their results. If they have taken any GCSEs with us at The Sheffield College, our City and Hillsborough campuses will be open from 8.30am until about 2pm.

What to look out for

Hillsborough_HR-82

In the envelope of results there’s likely to be a few certificates with different course results on depending on which exam board the courses were with. The most important results to look out for? Well they would be:

  • Maths and English
  • The subjects your child is wanting to continue to studying

Your young person gets the grades they needed

Hillsborough_LR-97

In that case, congratulations! If they’ve already applied for a course with us, we’ll see them at enrolment. Remind them to bring their certificates along with them!

Your young person didn’t get the grades they wanted or needed, what next?

CityBrick_HR-182

Make sure your young person knows that this is the start, not the end. There are still lots of options available for them here at The Sheffield College such as an Apprenticeship or a hands-on, vocational course, not just A Levels.

The most important thing is that it’s not too late. We still have enough spaces on courses at the appropriate level for your young person to apply and enrol on before the start of term.

Click here to view all of our courses.

Already applied with us? No problems. If your child still comes along to their enrolment session, we’ll place them on level of course that’s right for them.

If your young person is feeling a bit stuck or unsure of what to do next, we’ll be on hand straight away. All of our campuses will be open on results day for advice and guidance but if a bit more time is needed to decide, please give us a ring on 0114 260 2600 to arrange an appointment with one of our expert advisers.

A Levels aren’t the only option

A Levels are not the only way for your young person to get to where they’re aiming for. Be that their chosen career, an Apprenticeship further down the line or university, the right option needs to be chosen.

Apprenticeships and vocational courses are highly respected by employers and will equip your young person with employability skills employers are looking for or carry the required UCAS points for a place at university.

It might be that they’re ready and more suited to something a bit more hands-on. Our vast array of vocational courses cover everything from Bakery to Engineering, Photography to Public Services. Our facilities rank amongst some of the best in the country, there’s certainly plenty on offer.

Click here to view all of our courses.

We also offer Apprenticeships in 15 different sectors, with a number of different roles within those, if earning whilst learning suits best. Apprenticeships range from Dental Nursing to Veterinary Nursing, Marketing Assistant to Teaching Assistant.

Missed out on English and/or Maths grades

Don’t panic if your young person misses out on their English and/or Maths grades. At The Sheffield College we will help them get that elusive grade alongside the course they want to study – without too much extra work.

The first resit is in November so they won’t have to wait too long, but it is really important they’re retaken. Find out why here…

A Level Results Day – Are You Ready?

Are you ready for it?

As far as days go, there’s not too much you can do about it now. A Level Results Day stirs the same emotions year on year; nerves, angst and restlessness. You’ve studied the course, put the work in and taken the exam; and as papers have been marked, moderated and verified, results are flooding in ready for the big day next week.

The waiting is horrible but, whatever your grades, it’s not the be all and end all. This is the start. The start of your next step with the college.

When do I get my results?

Results are out on Thursday 17th August 2017. If you studied your A Levels with us, they will be collectible from our Hillsborough campus from 7a.m. – nobody wants to be waiting longer than needs be! If you didn’t study with us please check with your provider what time you will be able to collect from.

If you haven’t yet applied to The Sheffield College for a university level course, you can do so by clicking here to view our course offer.

And how do I find out if I’ve been accepted to The Sheffield College?

The wait can be pretty intense, pretty stressful. Impatiently waiting for the clock to tick round until it’s time to collect your results to find out whether you’ve been accepted on your degree with us at The Sheffield College.

You will be able to check on UCAS as soon as it updates (any time from midnight) and, whilst you won’t get your results online, you will find out whether you’ve been accepted on to your choice of course at The Sheffield College. Alternatively, you’ll find out when you collect your results in person along with finding out what grades you have got.

You should receive a notification email letting you know the portal has updated but there’s going to be a lot of people using UCAS at exactly the same time so it may take a little time to come through. Have your sign in details ready and, if you’ve got the grades you’ll be seeing this…

Congratulations, you got the grades!

Well done! You’ve opened your browser and that Conditional Offer has changed to an Unconditional Offer for that coveted place you’ve been after with us. You’ll see this message and then you’ll know:

Congratulations! Your place at The Sheffield College for [course title] has been confirmed.

No need to do anything now, your place is confirmed and we will be in touch. Please avoid ringing for confirmation as we need to keep our phone lines free for Clearing. Your Confirmation letter should appear in Track five to seven days after your place is confirmed. Make sure you check it over but if we need anything else from you, we’ll be in touch!

From all of us here at The Sheffield College, good luck! You’ll be fine! If you do happen to run into any concerns or have any queries, give us a ring on 0114 260 2600, email info@sheffcol.ac.uk or have a chat to any of our staff on Results Day.
