You’ve got to make the next big step in your education and you’re deciding which route to take. If you haven’t yet decided come down to one of our Open Days and check out everything we can offer you; we have everything ranging from A-levels and Vocational courses, to Apprenticeships.
For those who have already made their mind up and decided a course at The Sheffield College is for you, amazing! Your next step is a simple one; applying through UCAS Progress. We’re sure your teachers have already told you all about UCAS Progress and how it works, but if you need a reminder please follow this link.
In the meantime, here are some of our top tips to give you that helping hand as you complete your application.
Do your research
You can never do enough of it. Finding the right course for you is a tough decision but by looking online, looking through our full-time guide and speaking to your teachers, your parents or Career Advisers you’ll be well on your way to knowing what you want to do!
Check the entry requirements of the courses you’re applying for
This is a biggy. You don’t want to be disappointed when you realise you can’t do the course. So, check the requirements before you send your application! If you are struggling to meet the requirements, don’t worry; we’ll work with you to find the course that best suits you.
Check the courses you are applying for fit with your career or job aspirations
This is a pretty simple one. If you wanted to be a chef you wouldn’t be looking at hair and beauty, would you? The last thing you want to do is waste a year doing something you’re really not that interested in.
Go for something you really want to do and something you’re passionate about. And if you’re not sure what that is yet, don’t worry! Get some advice and, throwback to bullet point one, research!
Check you’ve put the correct contact information on your application
We’ll be in touch throughout the process, including after you have received your conditional offer, so make sure your contact details are correct when submitting your application. Also, make sure you let us know if any contact details change from when you receive your conditional offer prior to starting the course!
Don’t fret about your personal statement
Just think about what you want to say about yourself, what we need to know about you and what could support your application. It doesn’t have to be a huge essay, it’s just a chance for us to find out a bit more about you!
Check your spelling and grammar on your application before sending
There’s nothing worse than making a spelling mistake on an application, especially when it’s going to the college you want to study at. Make sure you check it through and also put your parents and tutors to the test to see if they can find any spelling and/or grammar errors.
And that’s it! Follow our top tips, hit up the 8 easy stages on UCAS Progress and you’ll find yourself well on your way to becoming a student at The Sheffield College!
