10 Actors Who Moonlight As Rockstars

Happy BBC Music Day! A day that I only knew of about, oooooh, 2 day ago maybe?! Anyway, I’ve managed to find a pretty interesting article for all you interested souls out there.

The talented. Make you sick, don’t they?! The multi-talented – well they’re just the worst. These actors think they’re musicians. Well, they don’t think they are. They just are. As I said, sickening.

1. Molotov Jukebox

Molotov Jukebox

Famous Person: Natalia Tena, aka Tonks from Harry Potter and Osha from Game of Thrones.

This energetic British band is fronted by Natalia, who both sings and plays the accordion. These guys have got it all: rhythm, style, and a sense of humour. I’m also super into Natalia’s sexy policewoman look in the video below.

Famous Person: Penn Badgley, aka Dan from Gossip Girl.

Pretty sure Gossip Girl has had the highest number of actors starting music careers out of all the TV shows. Penn Badgley’s band is one of the best of the lot though, thanks to music that is actually, erm, good, and marketing that doesn’t rely too heavily on the “omg, look, it’s the guy from Gossip Girl!” angle. Thankfully, these guys’ sound and style is strong enough to stand up all on its own.

3. Dead Man’s Bones

Famous Person: Ryan Gosling, as in, Hey Girl, it’s Ryan Gosling.

Back in 2009, Ryan Gosling decided to form a two-man band, the concept of which is (as far as i’m aware) *spooky stuff*. It also utilises a full children’s choir. Amazingly enough though, the music is actually pretty good. I’d recommend forgetting all the supernatural concept stuff and just listening to the songs. In this case, the music speaks for itself.

4. Lolawolf

Famous Person: Zoe Kravitz, who has appeared in X-Men, Mad Max, and all my style dreams.

Zoe is just so cool. I mean, just so, so cool. Her band, Lolawolf, is also ridiculously cool. The video for their track “AYO” is the stuff of all my ’90s-inspired fever dreams.

5. She & Him

Famous Person: Zooey Deschanel of New Girl fame.

Zooey has a totally unexpected voice. It’s deep and soulful, and the opposite to her ultra feminine image. The rest of her music is so Zooey it hurts though. So much whimsy. So much vintage feel.

6. Thirty Seconds to Mars

Thirty Seconds to Mars

Famous person: Jared Leto. You know who Jared Leto is.

Thirty Seconds to Mars is a really well respected band in their own right, completely separate from Jared’s image. Snaps to them.

7. The Pretty Reckless

Famous Person: Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl.

Another musical wunderkind from Gossip Girl. I’m in love with Taylor’s style, and I’m in love with her sound. The anthem-esque “Heaven Knows” is an absolute tune.

8. Name TBD

Famous Person: Scarlett Johansson, she of the golden locks and man-eating alien performance.

No, Scarlett’s band isn’t called Name TBD. Though that would actually be quite witty. Scarlett’s band used to be called The Singles, but it turned out there was already a band with that name, so they have to come up with a new one. I think they should use Name TBD.

Name dramas aside though, their debut single is actually really good. Hurry up and come up with a band name, Scarlett, I want more of this sweet synth-y pop please.

9. The Shoe

Famous Person: Jena Malone of The Hunger Games.

Mellow indie pop. I defy you to listen to “Dead Rabbit Hopes” and not feel immediately calmer afterwards.

10. Mister Heavenly

Jacqueline Dimilia / Via Facebook: misterheavenly

Famous Person: Michael Cera of Superbad, Juno, Arrested Development…etc.

Michael did a stint as the bassist for indie rockers Mister Heavenly. I’m using his name as a flimsy excuse to put these guys in here – you *need* to hear “Bronx Sniper”. It’s so good.
